7,000 Participants Celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day Ceremony at Gelora Citramas Nongsa

Batam, August 2025 On Sunday morning (August 17), Gelora Citramas Field in Batu Besar, Nongsa, was transformed into a sea of people as around 7,000 participants gathered to commemorate Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day in a ceremony organized by Citramas Group.

From as early as 7 a.m., attendees were already lined up in neat formation. The ceremony drew enthusiastic participation from industrial park employees, community leaders, students, and school principals from across Nongsa District.

As the red and white flag was raised, the atmosphere turned solemn. The sound of marching feet gave way to the national anthem, Indonesia Raya, accompanied by a marching band.

Michael Wiluan, CEO of Citramas Group and Inspector of the Ceremony, emphasized the crucial role of the younger generation in shaping Indonesia’s future.

“Indonesia’s journey over the past eight decades has been filled with challenges, but also serves as a testament to the resilience of its people,” he remarked.

Michael also highlighted Citramas Group’s long-standing contribution to the development of Batam since the 1970s, spanning sectors such as logistics, oil and gas, tourism and digital economy in the Nongsa area.

“Citramas is committed to driving economic growth while also developing a competitive workforce. Our vocational training programs, partnerships with global academies, as well as sports and community initiatives, reflect our responsibility to nurture young Indonesian talents who are ready to face the future,” he added.

He went on to express appreciation for the achievements of Citramas Foundation, including gold and silver medals in sailing at the PON Games in Aceh, and health check-up initiatives for toddlers in the Nongsa community.

In his closing remarks, Michael addressed a special message to the students present.

“Keep learning, innovating, and striving to create a better future. May we all continue to contribute to Indonesia’s progress and success. Happy Independence Day! Merdeka!” he declared, greeted by a resounding cheer from the crowd.

After the ceremony, a sense of togetherness filled the air as many participants took group photos to capture the historic moment.

“This occasion is more than just an annual tradition, it is a reminder that the spirit of independence must be upheld through real action,” Michael concluded. (*)
