KOMPAS.com — A total of 1,145 construction workers involved in the development of the NeutraDC Nxera Batam data center have been covered by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s social security program. This initiative reflects efforts to ensure that the development of digital infrastructure goes hand in hand with worker safety and welfare.

NeutraDC Nxera Batam is a data center facility within the TelkomGroup ecosystem that is currently under construction. All construction workers recorded in the project’s membership data are covered under the Construction Services (Jasa Konstruksi) segment of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

Worker protection at the project site was among the key areas of focus during a working visit to Batam by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan President Director Saiful Hidayat and Director of Membership Agung Nugroho on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Saiful emphasized that investment growth and infrastructure development must be accompanied by social security protection for the workers involved.

“Behind the development of digital infrastructure are thousands of workers who play a vital role in bringing these projects to life. Through the Construction Services Employment Social Security Program, workers and their families are protected from having to bear the financial burden alone when work-related risks arise,” Saiful said in a press release received by Kompas.com on Monday, October 19, 2026.

Through the Construction Services Employment Social Security Program (Jakon), eligible workers receive protection against occupational accidents and death. This includes Work Accident Insurance (Jaminan Kecelakaan Kerja/JKK), which covers medical treatment and healthcare in accordance with medical indications, as well as other benefits stipulated under applicable regulations.

Meanwhile, Death Insurance (Jaminan Kematian/JKM) provides financial benefits to the beneficiaries of participants who pass away due to causes unrelated to occupational accidents or work-related illnesses.

According to Saiful, the success of development should not be measured solely by the scale of investment or the infrastructure delivered. Worker safety and welfare must also remain a priority for businesses.

Encouraging Access to Decent Housing for Workers

In addition to providing protection against work-related risks, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is also committed to improving worker welfare by supporting access to decent and affordable housing.

This commitment was among the topics discussed during Saiful’s visit to Kabil Integrated Industrial Estate (KIIE), prior to his inspection of the NeutraDC Nxera Batam data center project.

During the meeting, KIIE President Director, Peters Vincen expressed his appreciation for the collaboration established with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, particularly in providing protection against social risks for workers within the industrial estate.

Peters also welcomed the proposed addition of a Griya Pekerja residential tower to help address the housing needs of workers in the Kabil area.

In response, Saiful explained that Griya Pekerja is one of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s initiatives in support of the Three Million Houses Program launched by President Prabowo Subianto.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts to expand the benefits of employment social security beyond protection against unforeseen risks, while also supporting workers’ quality of life.

“Our commitment is to continuously enhance the benefits experienced by our participants, not only through social security protection but also through tangible support that improves the quality of life and well-being of workers and their families.

“The proposal to add another Griya Pekerja tower will serve as input for further discussions, taking into account the needs, feasibility, and applicable regulations,” Saiful said.
